VIRGINIA DUI HANDBOOK
The saddest part of my job is sitting in court day after day, watching people go to jail and lose their licenses because they did not understand the judicial system and did not understand their rights. This book will not only help you find better attorney but also empower you to use your attorney more effectively by becoming a more informed client. Virginia’s DUI laws are complicated and brutal: if you have been arrested, you need to read this book.
In Virginia, the crime of driving under the influence (DUI) is one of the most complicated crimes in the Commonwealth. There are roughly 22 pages of criminal code and approximately 17 different punishments associated with DUIs. Defending a DUI may require knowing dozens of highly technical forensic processes, understanding constitutional issues, and navigating mountains of bureaucratic red tape.
DUIs are also extremely serious. A driver’s first DUI can mean up to 12 months in jail and a mandatory 12-month revocation of your driver’s license. It can also cost a driver up to $2,500 in fines, in addition to fees, court costs, and increased insurance premiums. Second and third DUIs are more complicated and much more serious.

Anyone arrested for DUI or refusal to submit to a breath test needs to hire an experienced DUI attorney. This book will not only walk you through the entire DUI judicial process, it will also teach you how to work effectively with your attorney.
The best DUI attorney have invested substantial time and resources studying DUI forensic and legal issues. They are detail-oriented, are easy to communicate with, have excellent negotiating and people skills, back up their promises with a free appeal, and (most importantly) will represent their client through the entire DUI judicial process.
Good attorney will aid their clients in getting a restricted license. They will also help their clients register for the extremely tedious and complicated mandatory drug and alcohol programs.
Without this post-trial help, clients may be arrested for unintentionally violating their probation or their restricted license. Make sure you hire an attorney who will assist you through the post-trial process.
If you have been arrested for DUI or refusal to submit, I hope that you will take the time to read this book carefully. Educated clients not only hire better attorney, they get more out of the attorney they hire.
